africa@jaceanderson.com

Today we drive to the Calgary airport, from there, we will be flying into Africa. 4 weeks on the continent, and i hope to blog even more than i did last time we were overseas.
For direct contact email africa@jaceanderson.com we'd love to hear from you.

My web traffic is still higher than it's ever been in the near two years i've been blogging here, but the chatter has dropped off lately. Or at least it feels like the comments section isn't getting used as much. i'm gone for a month, talk it up!

Adoption by Ogilvy, Mumbai

While not intending to make adoption a central theme on this humble blog (tho, i did post about adoption here recently as well). Ogilvy has done a wonderful job visually promoting Adoption Awareness Week. View all four warm images here on Sandeeps blog.

Operation Slapshot

Define irony.

League of Southern Alberta for World Dominance

Toastmasters was a hoot today. For those of you unsure of the term "hoot", i use it here to describe a "very good time indeed". Yeah, it was a hoot.

Working from my "Speaking to Inform" series, i crafted a 10 minute speech that had me addressing the League of Southern Alberta for World Dominance (which, to clarify, does NOT exist, except for the topic of my speech). The goal was to speak as if responding to a research question raised. The title of my speech was Empire How? and entailed a scathing commentary filled with Candies, Baubles & Napoleon Bonaparte (quite storied in classical world dominance).

I am available for speaking engagements... if you or your company would like to hear about HOW to rule the world, using the above three topics... it would be my pleasure (only half kidding).

West can learn from Kenya

i wonder what sort of stress and discomfort this might create. i also wonder aloud whether this concept might be beneficial for our Canadian Parlimentary process.
"all members of his cabinet would be put under "performance contracts" to improve public service." - Mr Kibaki, President of Kenya (fighting for his political life)

Thoughts?

When the Camels Start Dying...

Next time i am tempted to think that my situation is not amazing... remind me of this link:
"I used to be a rich man," he said. "I had 160 cattle. Now I have 2. I have no money, no work, my children are sick. What do I do?"

i'll be there in a few weeks, and frankly, i'm quite hesitant about what i might see. Pray for them.

Get Out the Vote Haiti

"PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — After four postponements, Haiti Tuesday holds its first presidential election since its last elected leader was ousted two years ago."

"Once the richest colony in the Americas, Haiti now is the poorest nation in the hemisphere. Life expectancy is 53 years. More than half the population can't read or write. Four of five Haitians live on $2 a day, according to U.N. statistics."

- Danna Harman, USA TODAY

i am curious to see the sort of voter turnout that Haiti recieves today. It could be a very good day, another step.

Zambia: Fertile but hungry

"As you drive around the Zambian countryside, to the north and south of the capital, Lusaka, it is sometimes difficult to understand why there is a food crisis in this country." - By Peter Biles, BBC southern Africa correspondent

Self Control Touted

Join me, fellow Canadians, and take note of this recent stance by the incoming new Tory federal leadership. Regardless of whom recieved your cast ballot, this must be encouraging... no?

"...that kind of self-control is a crucial element in running a successful minority government." - Globe & Mail

Dee-TROIT XL

Ahhh, what a way to spend the day. XL.

Swahili Cheatsheet

Less than two weeks now... We will be first arriving in Nairobi around February 15th or so... depending on how fast Kenya Air flies.
As the resident linguist in training... i figured sharing these files will help those team members who are keeners for language studies. Enjoy... i know i am.

Hehe.
Here is a suggestion for the impending Federal Liberal party leadership.

Lions May Beg to Differ

The Pride of Africa?

hmmmm...

/ Air Sickness Bag Virtual Museum, view over 1800 different bags. Weird, and possibly a complete waste of time.

i really wish i had thought of this! (the virtual museum barf bag idea, not the actual air sickness bag... tho that was also a welcome invention, better money too i'm sure).
