Phone notes

i *just* made a tough call to a client that i respect very much. i was nervous. i felt like i'd failed him, and that he would have been within his right to be angry.
Guess what? It went smoothly... it was clean.
i wrote a brief script of my thoughts... what i wanted to share over the phone call. That script was in front of me while i spoke...
Using this simple tool enabled me to retain my focus on solutions, not on wallowing in my own perception.
i'm not going to give you any more content or input regarding the call, or more importantly the script technique. It's not secret, or hard, merely a tool to use when necassary. It works...

Bob's Real Estate Investment

Spent last nite learning stuff. i try to do that every once and awhile. :)
Seriously tho, Bob Bourke invited me to his real estate investment seminar. Well delivered... i won't try and regale you with everything that i've learned, i will suggest tho, that you call him yourself. It would be worth your time!
Several of my friends have profited from real estate investment, with varying degree's of success and excitement inducing returns... i've always been intrigued. Maybe it's my time.
Brad Isfeld, a partner at Ensminger, Beck & Thompson Chartered Accountants spoke briefly. Janice Hehr of Mortgagebrokers.com was also a part of the action.
All in all it was a lively bunch of folks, a full crowd at the Medicine Hat Lodge.
Looking forward to the next one Bob... good show!

Street Corner Ads

This i like. Relevant? i don't read spanish... but the concept is fun.

Where in Medicine Hat might we put one of these? and who would we advertise for? Thoughts...

Constant Gardner

Watched a movie the other nite. Contstant Gardner was a vivid, artistic view of Kenya, a country that i have come to love. Movie was visually warm, with a cold under-current of greed in a petri dish of faux-consent. Real life is as brutal (or more so) but without the pretty pictures. Sick. Have a good nite.

Rob Brown an Eskimo

The defensive tackle was in Africa along with new teammate Joe Montford and B.C. Lions defensive back Mark Washington, and needless to say, was not a phone call away.

The Africa trip mentioned in the clip above, that was our AIA Bigger Than You Tour. Great trip, and great guys to travel with.

FUT in Mesa

FUT in the Hat Theatre held their opening nite of Doug Curtis' play Mesa. The story about the journey of two men. Good stuff.
Grant Bray, Mike Waskalik & David Stewart... all play in a remarkable production. Warm, riviting, and most of all, extremely minimalist. Virtually no props, this speech driven play was a joy to see. The intimate setting of the Black Box Theatre was ideal. Good stuff indeed!
A shout-out and big thankyou must be given to BMO Nesbitt Burns for arranging the tickets, and then seeing to include me in the invitation list. Somehow.

Drop In Basketball

That was grand! Tonights basketball drop-in at Hillcrest Church Gym was my first time back since Africa. I've been looking forward to it. Great turn-out (15). Kudo's to the guys for managing to wash pini's and unlock doors while i was gone (i knew i was dispensable). The competition was high (run off my feet), which i appreciated . This run was without the altitude inducing burning-lung sensation i had in all three countries in Africa. Good times all around.

*SPECIAL SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*

Next monday's b-ball will NOT be at Hillcrest (which is already booked)... we will be at the Southridge YMCA (Renee booked it tonight while i was playing)... That is the Southridge YMCA from 7pm to 9pm. Tell everyone! (yeah, glass backboards... i love this game)

*Take special note of the above SPECIAL SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*

Some Things Stay the Same

As you no doubt have figured out, i spent the last 4 weeks and a day in Africa. Far away from the comforts and interweb-ness of home. I am re-climatizing myself, there is snow on the ground, and news to be aware of. It is good to see some things have not changed. Subtle speculation regarding our newest Canadian PM was that he might not last a month. "Harper has made it abundantly clear this week that he did not become prime minister to join a parade, but rather to try to lead it." - Brandon Sun

medhatblog.com

I had thousands of emails waiting for me when i got home. Most of them, i could delete with impunity, some tho, some were worth reading. A letter from Skeet regarding his brand new website medhatblog was one such letter. A "impartial and (mostly) unbiased" blog focused specifically on Medicine Hat, our home here in Southern Alberta. It was a conversation that we had shared over a cup of coffee some time ago, so i am excited that the concept is a reality... a work in progress. Go, read & comment.

Skeet gets some jaceanderson.com attention... don't let me down! best of luck with the work...

Back Home

Arrived home late last nite. Still Lagging. Work will begin in earnest... soon. Journal -like entries describing the month in Africa will follow, this weekend likely. Time to sleep, and Madagascar too...
God is Good.
All the Time.
