Advertiser Consumer

Consumer breaks up with Advertiser. This is good. Honest. The Spoon intro is so true. Funny enough. I found the link for the video on the site of one Ryan Anderson (not related)

Sturgeon & Fergus

We spent some time in a cottage on Sturgeon Lake, just down the coastline from Lindsay & Bobcaygeon (remember the Hip?).
Then, a little more time in Fergus, and the surrounding countryside. What a great assortment of old world architecture, cultural diversity & great farmers markets... Wow.

First, era had the pleasure of learning to ride (a dog).
It is going to be stampede soon... and you have to start *busting* something, why not Petey the Dog?

/for those of you with knowledge of the sport, yeah, era got a full 8 seconds in.

Next, while boating Sturgeon Lake, Ontario, era managed to use the wheel. He's gonna make a fine pirate some day.

Summer time meant Sun time... and era got his share. This boy knows how to travel, and how to relax.

/i bought a can of Cheetah Energy Drink... heh... Not to drink (yet), but to put on the shelf as a reminder of that pivotal race in 1988 that i watched & CHEERED as Ben Johnson won. And now this: "Yes, I Cheetah all the time." Punny i suppose... but it's not a big hit, as reviewed by ads that suck.

// i bought the book. Hard cover. Reading it has been an absolute blast.

Mission 137

I've been watching TSN's online broadcast of a CFL game tonight. Edmonton vs. Winnipeg. If it wasn't for my desire to see Milt get his 137th career TD i would have scrapped the internet feed. Choppy... disappointing. (Watching the WHL hockey game was much better, mind you it was NOT free).

Of course, Milt gets the touchdown... with seconds to spare, & to tie the game. Drama.
And now for OT... i will read that on the ticker. Until the broadband gets a little better.

/Winnipeg represents the East in this years Grey Cup (in Toronto... i'm hoping to go)
That is my prediction/selection... here are the rest of the Wendys TSN crew giving theirs!

I'm Back

I haven't blogged for quite some time now. i didn't forget about the interweb... nor did i end up in a locale that doesn't support the interweb (for the most part). Rather, the family and i went on a quick vacation... and i decided it prudent not to publish that until i returned. (don't ask) :)

Pictures to follow later tonight...

What a Great Weekend

This weekend i migrated some pics of era from the digi-cam over to the desktop. A few of those pics follow:

Era eating blueberries... good times.

Sleeping on dads shoulder, as he often does.

Loving his latest toy... thanks.

His favorite snack time is still Waddles the Duck.

Aside from Fathers Day, which was a blast, i stayed up too late and watched the entire first season of The Unit (13 episodes). Dennis Haysbert is as good as a special ops Delta Force guy, as he was President Palmer. (This guy has been acting so long he has been on Magnum PI & Lavern & Shirley. - Old Skool)

Public Speaking Volunteer

A year ago i listed a brief profile of myself on a Volunteer Community site that was begun to serve as an aggregate selection of folks willing to Public Speak in Southeast Alberta.

No takers yet. I haven't fielded one call, that i recall.

What should i change?

I've had ample opportunity to speak in public, and Toastmasters has been a big reason why i am as comfortable as i am... It would be nice to have a hit or two from this list tho...

i wonder how other members of the list are finding their response? It might just be me :)

Ducks for Profit

I've blogged Kiva before. This story is a much more localized, much more questionable scenario.

This is a bit of a flashback... while i was in Calgary a while back the following exchange occurred:

(while sitting in an outdoor patio on Stephens Ave for a early morning coffee a woman, within earshot of my perch, began approaching all passers by and repeating the same mantra;

"Somebody stole my ducks

Can you spare a dollar

All I need is 20 bucks to start my duck business

(repeat above… ad nausea)"

There was little room for doubt that A: She was homeless, and that B: she was living and attempting to cope with mental illness.
I was almost sorry that she never took any notice of me, she didn't bother to give me a glance at all... i was really thinking that i might enable her to start her duck business. At the very least i would have enjoyed the explanation, it was only 20 bucks for ducks.

Tickets to the Game

CCL had the opportunity to sponsor our local baseball team, the Medicine Hat Mavericks. We jumped at it. Got our sign up in left field "www.donotrent.ca" and everything.

The big perk tho, is a handful of game tickets. I've gone to one game a year for a few years now: to show support - it's time to take the family!

When i got home Renee had gotten era ready to go... all i had to do was put the tickets in his hands, and off we go!

Tonight was the Mav's second home game of the 2007 season. Sounds like a good time to take era out to the ball park. Eat some dogs... drink some pop. Sleep time comes fast for little ones (either that or dads attention span was short), the three of us left during the 3rd inning.

The Mini-Mavericks club was being advertised pretty heavy, along with the t-shirt and autographs the kids receive was a Mini-Mavericks baseball skills camp for kids later this month. That is a little too soon for era. Maybe next year?

Keeping up with Mukesh

Like me, i'm sure you've read, or heard about more and more families changing pace. Selling their homes in Alberta, and moving east. Maybe to Saskatchewan which is advertising pretty heavy in Alberta that their quality of life is better. Often tho, folks move farther east, out to the east coast. Good friends joined us for dinner tonight, in two weeks they will be in their new home in New Brunswick. They showed pictures, what a house (an acreage on the water). I can't say i'm not tempted with the concept myself... (property values are pretty reasonable, especially compared to Alberta's hot market.

Mind you, this next link is just a tad excessive... or freaking excessive, depending on how you are scoring at home.

"This 60-storey house is for just one family.

India's richest man, Mukesh Ambani, is planning a palace in the heart of Mumbai with helipad, health club, hanging gardens and six floors of car parking. "

In the middle of all of this jibber-jabber about housing and affordability... i present to you, the utmost in NON affordable housing... not even attainable.

"Construction has already started on what will eventually be a 175m tower and planners are aiming to complete it in September 2008.

Earlier this year, Forbes rated Mr Ambani as the richest resident Indian with a net worth of US$20.1 billion.

He came 14th in Forbes' 2007 worldwide rankings. "

Falkirk Wheel

"The Falkirk Wheel, named after the nearby town of Falkirk in central Scotland, is a rotating boat lift connecting the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. The difference in the levels of the two canals at the wheel is 24 metres, roughly equivalent to the height of an eight storey building." - Wikipedia

Where Was Grover Saturday Morning

Last week i talked about watching Disco Grover with my boy. Since that morning i've been anxiously waiting for Saturday morning to arrive again. So we could watch more Grover. Watch and blog more Grover.

Didn't happen. Instead, we went to the very first Farmers Market of the season here in Medicine Hat. Brian Kannekens of the Bean There Roasting Company was on hand selling his freshly roasted coffee beans. i glady bought 3 pounds: Tanzanian Peaberry, Ethiopian Harar and Columbian Decaf (for a gift). The market was chaulk full of food... and i have enough coffee now to last me the week. Thanks Brian.
Be sure to visit the Farmers Market for Bean There coffee beans... They're Great!

So, we skipped our Grover Saturday Morning... but theres no harm in posting the Grover video we would have watched together. Me and era i mean. Although i'm sure if Mr. Kannekens wanted to watch Grover with us, era wouldn't mind one bit (Just be sure to bring coffee, for dad).

Grover wants to be a life guard:

Grover certainly seems to have the lungs for the job. Doesn't that guy sound a LOT like kermit?

Harry is just down the road.
